For this project the goal was to re-design my favorite book cover to convey the overall message. The book I choose was Copper Sun by Sharon M. Draper. The book is about a young teenage girl who is taken from her village, put into the slave trade from Africa to America. When she arrives to America she knows she must be free and becomes a runaway slave.
The original book cover is successful however, I wanted to make the book cover modern and compete with the books on the shelves today. For research and discovery, I walked around a bookstore and a department stores. I notice that a lot of teen books today are illustrated and use simple shapes and lines. I decided to include the old book cover by making an outline of the girls silhouette. Tilt it slightly like she is looking up towards the sky. To give it an African theme I used colors to represent that portion and had circles and lines to create the sun.
